Why So Much Hate?
Two New Ways
The world's main religions give clear guidance to their followers about what is right and what is wrong. To a Muslim, to a Christian, to a Jew, or a Hindu certain ways of behaving towards other people are totally unacceptable because they fly in the face of their teachings. In these religions the emphasis is on human beings treating each other with kindness and respect.
In many parts of the world since the 1960s there has been a steady drift away from this kindness-and-respect based way of life. This has shown itself in two very different ways. For some, their religious faith has become a lot more extreme. They desperately search their scriptures for ways to try and justify their bloodlust, resulting in terrorism, atrocities and repression. If what they quote is incomplete, or out of context, so what? They revel in the excitement, power, violence and killing!
For other people the movement has been in the opposite direction, towards a secular, Godless society where people no longer go to the Bible or the Quran for guidance on the best way to behave. "I'll say what I want and I'll do what I want. If I hurt or offend anyone - tough!"
There is a peaceful alternative
Jesus taught His followers, "Do to others what you would have them do to you." In a society in which cyber-bullying, internet trolling, being a "neighbour from hell", road rage, or fraudulent scams are commonplace, life would be so much happier if people accepted Jesus' words instead of sneering at Him.
Paedophilia and child abuse are horrible. Jesus, in contrast, used to gather children round Him and keep them enthralled by His stories. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." If everyone respected children the way Jesus did, children of the future would be far better placed to enjoy the happy childhoods they deserve.
To many Christians Jesus Christ is their personal hero. None of the 'imaginary friend' nonsense that atheists snigger about. Jesus was and is very real and His words and deeds have passed down many centuries without losing any of their power. How many of the awful things in 21st Century life would vanish at a stroke if people followed Jesus' example?
Atheists are often very abusive about Jesus and delight in foul-mouthing Him in internet blogs, yet He preached "Love your neighbour as you love yourself." How could anyone find fault with that? When He was on earth Jesus was cruelly crucified.✞ Now He is verbally crucified. What did Jesus do to deserve this? He deserves our love, not our hate.
