One Day at a Time

The very words of Jesus, in His famous Sermon on the Mount, tell us not to "worry about tomorrow" (Matthew chapter 6 verse 34). Don't waste a single moment of TODAY! Of course, nothing would ever get done, or done properly, if we didn't plan or organise our lives in a sensible way. Everyone has to make and keep certain appointments, remember upcoming birthdays requiring a suitable gift, and decide the best way and time to travel - often dependant on the weather! But here's the important thing: we can pray about these, and ask for God's blessing on our situations and those of our friends and family. It's a lesson in TRUST. The Lord will always hear you (Psalm 138 verse 3). Prayer opens the door for God to work. Romans chapter 12 verse 12 says "Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times".

"Give us this day our daily bread" is part of the Lord's prayer. God did that way back in the Old Testament days, when He fed the Israelites as they were travelling through the desert. The food was called "manna" and appeared fresh every morning. See Exodus chapter 16 verses 14 to 16. The chapter goes on to tell how some of the people didn't believe that God would look after them! Proverbs 3 verse 5 says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know". Worrying about "tomorrow" is not good; in fact it's sinful.

I am a planner. I like making lists for shopping trips, things to do around the home, what to take for visits.... you name it, I get a pen and write it all down. Sadly, I have always had a tendency to worry. Proverbs 3 verse 5 says "Worry can rob you of happiness". It does indeed! But I pray constantly, repenting of my anxieties as they come along, and I know my heavenly Father is looking after me. 1 Peter chapter 5 verse 7 says "Leave all your worries with Him, because He cares for you". I really do appreciate each brand-new day.
