Remembering The Last Supper
The Last Supper
On the Thursday night before Good Friday when Jesus was crucified He had His last supper with His disciples. It was the ritual Passover meal which involved breaking bread and sharing it, followed by the pouring of red wine and sharing it. He told them that the bread was His body and the red wine was His blood. He told them to repeat this meal in the future after He'd gone and to remember Him when they did so.
The Bread and the Wine Today
Because Jesus asked His followers to remember Him whenever they broke the bread and drank the wine together in future, all Christian churches share this ritual. Some call it Mass, others call it Eucharist and others Holy Communion.
