Christianity in a Nutshell
Christmas
A Time For Celebration
How would you feel if your friends always celebrated each other's birthdays, but forgot yours, year after year? Would you feel any better if on your birthday they organised a fantastic, very costly party and . . . you weren't invited? This is what our Saviour Jesus Christ faces every Christmas in many places. How do you think He feels? You might say you don't believe in Jesus. In that case what exactly are you celebrating? Isn't there something sad about a secular Christmas where Christ is left outside, uninvited?
A Time Of Happiness
For nearly two thousand years Christians have celebrated the birth of our Saviour. Just as with other birthdays, people give presents, bringing happiness, especially where children are concerned. Because Jesus isn't with us physically we give them to each other. It is a time when families and friends get together to have lots of fun and to enjoy each others' company. People like to sing well-known Christmas songs and, sometimes, Christmas carols. Often alcohol helps to make singing easier for people who are not normally gifted that way! Jesus, when He was on earth, liked to have a drink too. He often told stories about parties and His first miracle was to turn water into wine. Let's stop leaving Christ out of Christmas.
A Time Of Joy
There are about two billion Christians living in the world today. None of them will perish when they die because they are all saved simply by believing in Jesus. As it says in the Bible (John 3,16) "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life". Think how many people in the previous 2,000 years have also been saved through belief in Jesus, their Saviour. No wonder Christmas is a time of joy for believers!!
